Need a vine for a trellis, pole, or fence? Cardinal climber makes a nice partner with scarlet runner bean or morning glory. Deep red flowers with a white/yellow throat attract pollinators and hummingbirds like crazy! We can't say enough about the beautiful, fern-like foliage that together with the flowers make this an eye-catcher! Great container variety. Caution: Most parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested.

Botanical Name: Ipomoea sloteri

Family: Convolvulaceae

Native: Only in cultivation

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 11 and 12; usually grown as an annual

Plant Dimensions: 6'–20' vine

Variety Information: ¾" wide, red, tubular flowers

Exposure: Full sun

Bloom Period: Summer to frost

Attributes: Attracts Hummingbirds, Good for Containers

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date. Plants started too early outside will end up less vigorous than plants started when warmer.

When to Start Inside: 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting outside. Sow into a biodegradable pot that can be directly planted in the ground to avoid disturbing roots.

Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 6"–12"
